Readers React: Anti-democracy radicals in GOP are not conservative – The Morning Call

I wonder when the media is going to stop using the label “conservative” when referring to insurrectionists and anti-democracy Republicans.
In fact, these folks are not conservatives in any true meaning of the word. They are not interested in “conserving” anything.
They promote radical and violent repudiation of voters’ elected representatives; they undermine our faith in the foundation of democracy, one person, one vote; they use blatant propaganda to spread lies and frighten people with their forcefulness. They use threats and intimidation to influence others through the tactics of bullies and thugs.
Historically, conservatives have had a different approach: to slow down reactive decisions. By holding on to principles that support democracy, they have helped to stabilize our country’s diversity as we grow and the world around us changes. The patriotism of John McCain and Dwight Eisenhower are the examples of conservative Republicans.
The men and women of the current Republican Party who promote a fundamental change in our democracy are not conservatives.
In fact they are Republican in Name Only, RINOs. Another descriptor would be rebels.
Let us have more accurate labels for these destructive groups that wrap themselves in deceit.
